A teacher makes all of the difference when it comes to grades, effort on assignments, and your over-all attitude about a class. The teacher's role is to be the motivator, have a positive attitude, and help students along their way to excelling in that class.
A good teacher is inspiring, helpful, and comforting. I think the worst thing about highschool is having a really difficult class without a teacher you are comfortable with. If you are struggling, the only thing you want is to get help and feel confident. I have experienced this, feeling alone and stupid in a class I hated. Its the worst!
High school teachers have a big job. They are responsible for preparing us for college, future jobs, and skills we need to be successful. We are supposed to figure out a lot on our own in high school, but without our teachers, we do not have a strong foundation for our high school careers.
I would feel helpless without my teachers, they help me through so much. Not to name names, but the teachers in our school are great. We are so lucky that our class sizes are small enough so that we can all recieve individual attention. We are allowed to stay after everyday, and usually, no matter what we need help with, our teachers are there for us all the time.
I have realized throughout my highschool years, that it is possible to turn yourself around. If you are an average student, no where is it written that you must stay an average student. I have turned around my grades all because of help from my teachers--they actually do want us to succeed.
Although our education is up to us, a lot of it is also the responsibilty of a teacher. I know that what ever effort and attitude I put into my classes, thats the only thing im going to get out of it. If I act negatively toward a class, I am most likely to not do well. My teachers and friends keep me determined to remain a good, positive student.
I firmly agree that teachers have an overwhelmingly large impact when it comes to education and student relationships. Though I do think it is the teachers job to motivate, I also think that the student has to have the desire to learn. If the student is not engaged with the class the teacher might as well be talking to herself. The Teachers in our school are great and build a comfortable and competitive environment in order to prepare us for our future jobs. I also agree with the fact that you mentioned how any student can turn around their grades. The knowledge is all out there, you just have to go out there and soak it in.
